Create an account

  1. Open Sign in and enter your work email.
  2. Click Email me a sign-in link, then open the link in the email. It works on any device.
  3. New accounts start a free 3-day trial. We don't ask for a card.

Add your site

The setup wizard has six steps. You can leave at any point and come back; your progress is kept.

  1. Website. Type your address and click Analyze my site. Only workspace owners and admins can add sites.
  2. Business profile. SearchlarkBot reads up to 15 public pages, which takes about a minute. Anything your robots.txt blocks is skipped (see SearchlarkBot). Then check what we found: business name, what you do, who your customers are, locations served and brand voice. Every article is written from this profile, so fix anything we got wrong, then click Looks right, continue.
  3. Competitors. We suggest a few from your profile and location. Click Exclude on any that aren't real rivals, and add ones you know. Keyword research looks for searches they rank for and you don't.
  4. Publishing. Choose Review first or Autopilot, how many articles a week, and the language articles are written in. The publishing guide explains the two modes.
  5. Connect. Pick where articles go: WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Shopify or a webhook. You can click Skip for now and connect later.
  6. Plan. A summary of what you set up. Keyword research starts here.

If we can't read your site, the profile step says why, with Try again and an option to use a different address. A robots.txt that blocks us can let us in with this rule:

robots.txt
User-agent: SearchlarkBot
Allow: /

You can change the profile, publishing mode and brand voice later in Site settings.

Keywords and topic clusters

  1. Open Keywords. Research runs on its own after setup. You can leave the page while it runs.
  2. Keywords are grouped into Topic clusters. Pick a cluster to see its keywords with their intent, search volume and difficulty.
  3. Use the plan button on a keyword to add it to the calendar, or exclude it so we leave it out. Excluded keywords are listed under Excluded, where you can bring them back.
  4. Re-run research refreshes the list. Your current keywords stay until the new run finishes.

The calendar

  • When research finishes, Calendar fills the next 30 days with topics, spread over your publishing days. Click Fill next 30 days to plan again. Existing articles keep their dates.
  • Drag an article onto another day to move it. Articles under Unscheduled have a Pick a date button.
  • Click an article to open it. From there you can Generate now, Open article or Skip it. Skipped articles can be restored from the Skipped list.

Your first article

  1. Each article is written about two days before its date, so you have time to review it. To start sooner, click Generate now.
  2. Writing runs in steps: check what ranks today, write the brief, draft the article, fact-check and links, then final checks. You can leave the page while it works.
  3. Open it from Content (the Needs review filter lists drafts waiting for you). The editor shows a Preview and a Markdown view.
  4. Read the Fact check panel. Each flag is rated high, medium or low and quotes the claim, the issue and a suggestion. Links we couldn't verify are removed and listed there. Fix the high flags before you approve.
  5. Edit the text, or use Rewrite a section: pick a section, say what should change, and click Rewrite. Under Search appearance you can set the meta title and meta description, and the FAQ is published with FAQPage structured data.
  6. Click Save. Every save is kept under Versions, so you can restore an earlier one.
  7. Click Approve and schedule. The article publishes on its date. If you don't want it, click Skip.

Connect your site and publish

Open Integrations to connect a destination if you skipped it during setup. Approved articles wait until a connection works. Once it does, they publish on their scheduled day, or right away with Publish now in the editor. Edits to a live article go out when you click Update live post. The publishing guide covers each platform.

Search Console

Search Console connection opens soon. Everything else works now.

Invite your team

  1. Open Workspace settings, then Team.
  2. Under Invite a teammate, enter an email and a role, then click Send invitation. We email them a link that works once and expires in 7 days.
